Rev. Judy Brain - Bridge Pastor
Judy is a graduate of Harvard Divinity School where she was awarded the Billings Prize for Preaching. She served as senior minister at Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Lexington for 17 years. Under her leadership, the sanctuary was renovated, the church increased in adult membership, and the church school grew from 20 to over 100.
In her ministry, a primary focus has been interfaith understanding and social justice. She has worked with many community organizations that promote respect, civility, and peace.
As a representative of the Mass. Conference, UCC, she has been a consultant for church growth and vitality. She currently facilitates a group of clergy who gather for collegial support and sharing best practices.
Judy’s responsibilities at Second Church above and beyond Sunday worship will be two-fold:
• To partner with Nancy Rexford and Charles Turning in creating worship services that engage our minds, nurture our souls, and increase our devotion to God and our neighbors.
• To work with church leaders to enable us to accomplish the mission and ministries to which we have been called and to communicate our activities to the congregation.
Judy will be available for life-passage events such as baptisms, funerals, and weddings and will provide crisis care. Note, the daily workings of the church – care for the building and finances, visiting shut-ins, supporting the Sunday school, carrying out our programs and ministries – all these will be handled by our able staff and designated leaders.
Charles Turner and Nancy Rexford
They are a hunsband-and-wife team who. Nancy plays the organ and piano, Charles conducts, they both sing and play bells, and always work as a team with the choir. They plan the music together, and both guide the choir with suggestions during rehearsals. Charles also plays double bass, trombone and shakuhachi (a Japanese bamboo flute).
Ms. Mary Jane Clark, Parish Administrator
Mary Jane Clark is responsible for the many groups that use the church facility. Primary focus is on keeping the operation of our church programs running smoothly by supporting the church staff and members as needed. She views her position as that of problem-solver/trouble shooter for over twenty-five years, but most important, hers is the first welcoming presence to greet visitors to the church office. When asked about her responsibilities, she good-naturedly replies that her tasks run the gamut from keeping parishioners informed through monthly newsletter or ordering maintenance supplies and everything in between. Mary Jane has been an active member of our faith community for the past fifty years!
